Assessment, Recording and Reporting Overview
A large number of assessment, recording and reporting procedures are undertaken throughout the academic year. This ensures that pupils make steady and worthwhile progress, identifies the speed at which the progress is made and helps to document the progress. The procedures in place are developed around the special needs of our pupils and give a good and realistic picture of their progress.
 
 
Individual Education Plans (I.E.P’s)
Late in September the first Individual Education Plans (I.E.P’s) are written based upon the last academic year’s reports. These highlight areas of focus in the four areas of literacy, numeracy, behaviour and communication skills. The second page highlights topics of work covered by the whole class during the first half of the year. These targets can also be cross curricular in nature and are cross-referenced with teacher’s planning. In February and July the targets are reviewed and assessed as to whether they are achieved or ongoing including various levels of achievement depending on the level of help.
 
 
Annual reports and annual review meetings
At some point between October and April an annual report will be written for every pupil in the school. For pupils in year 9 (the last year of key stage 3) this will take the form of an even bigger document called a transition plan. Every National Curriculum subject area as well as specific areas such as physiotherapy, speech therapy will be reported upon, including a P level grade. A month or so after the report has gone home parents/guardians are invited into the school to meet with class teachers and relevant professionals to discuss progress and continued appropriateness of statement and provision. In fact feedback form accompany most reports that go home allowing high levels of parental input.
